Famous Graves, their first album for Xtra Mile Recordings, has been described as “a collection of good. honest punk jams for us all to enjoy” by Rock Sound, and Kerrang! said “(it) will entertain you, your mum and your 70-year old grandma all at the same time….they rock in all the right places”.

Check out three songs from the album that the band recorded for a radio session in the States including the recent single ‘Knock Me Over’ which gained plays and support at XFM and Amazing Radio:

Knock Me Over
Man in Question
Amazing Grace

The album title came from the band’s habit of visiting cemeteries in the towns they visit to see if anybody of note has been buried there. They’ve seen everyone’s grave, from Bon Scott in Perth to Ian Curtis near Manchester. The second meaning for the title is, as bassist/vocalist Ian Graham explains, a bit deeper. “The phrase started taking on the idea of common error, It refers to obvious ways to make mistakes - ways to get caught doing the same thing over and over.”
We hope this trip makes good use of the first meaning!

“You could see them sharing a stage with the likes of The Replacements, REM and Dinosaur Jr. and more than holding their own.” - Big Cheese

XTRA MILE HIGH CLUB VOL. 5: SMOKIN' (SIGNED VS UNSIGNED) OUT 11 AUGUST 2014

Xtra Mile Recordings will release Xtra Mile High Club Vol. 5: Smokin’ (Signed vs Unsigned) - the fifth installment of the critically acclaimed label compilation series - on 11 August 2014.

Split into two halves, this digital only compilation features almost every act on Xtra Mile Recordings’ roster on ‘Side A’ and an unsigned act of their choosing on ‘Side B’.

Showcasing the diversity of Xtra Mile’s musical leanings, Side A features the caustic title track from Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me!; the cannonball barrage of Möngöl Hörde’s ‘Blistering Blue Barnacles’; the unmistakable roots groove of Sonic Boom Six’s ‘A Little Bit of Reggae’, and the unplugged wordplay of Ben Marwood’s ‘They Will Float Your Body Out To Sea’. You’ll get pop highs off of Rob Lynch, gruff bluntness from Beans On Toast, and synth-laden pop from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. You’ll hear from our newer signees like Billy the Kid and one of our oldest friends, Jamie Lenman. The whole spectrum.

Our acts are always discovering new music and ‘Side B’ - in keeping with Xtra Mile’s constant search and support for new and unsigned acts - comprises their recommendations of emerging artists. Included are the sublime Spring Offensive, The Lion & the Wolf, The Karma Party, Toucans, Grace Petrie & the Benefits Culture, Little Rob and The Mob and many, many more.

Joining the unsigned half of the compilation are International Departures who won the final spot with their track ‘Give Me Something’, voted for by our dedicated Xtra Mile Street Team from hundreds of entries sent to us last month. Like bumping into a dear friend unexpectedly, it turns out Henry Carden – formerly of Dartz! alongside William Anderson of current XMR band, Algiers – is the man behind International Departures.

The artwork is a snapshot taken of an active volcano and is in keeping with all previous plane/sky/space themed XMHC volume front covers. This naturally gave rise to the so-obvious-it’s-not-even-funny compilation title: Smokin’.

Look out for an XMR Hub feature which will include our bands’ reasons for choosing their unsigned counterparts and other fun Smokin’ related things.

The Xtra Mile High Club series, proudly shows off the breadth of talent on its eclectic roster. Welcome to the club…

CHEAP GIRLS PRE-ORDER BUNDLES AVAILABLE - ALBUM OUT 12 MAY // TOUR DATES WITH ANDREW JACKSON JIHAD

In advance of the release of Cheap Girls' ear-pounding new album Famous Graves, Xtra Mile Recordings have launched a number of pre-order bundles for those keen and on-the-pulse.

Once described by Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!, who produced their third album Giant Orange, as "an authentic Midwestern rock band in the vein of The Replacements, Soul Asylum, Sugar and early Smoking Popes", Famous Graves really drives those comparisons home. Loud, with soaring melodies built on chiming and (over)driven guitars, punching the air ecstatically is the only acceptable reaction. Those who saw them on tour with Against Me! in March and The Hold Steady in April will attest to that.

Famous Graves can be pre-ordered from the Xtra Mile Recordings shop and is available on CD, coloured 12" vinyl, and as a download. To add to those already attractive standard options, check out the Xtra Mile-exclusive Cheap Girls t-shirt, and the vinyl & t-shirt or CD & t-shirt bundles too. What's more, the first 100 USA pre-orders will get an exceptional Cheap Girls beer koozie.

You can feast your eyes on these treats below in our picture gallery.

Want more reasons to pre-order? Well, you can listen to three tracks from the record right now - Man In Question, Amazing Grace, and Knock Me Over.
