The past three years have been astonishing for Frank Turner. It has seen his album Tape Deck Heart enter the UK Charts at Number 2; previous albums England Keep My Bones and Love Ire & Song being certified gold and silver respectively, selling out Wembley Arena, playing the London Olympics Opening Ceremony and headlining his own UK arena tour. And, (probably) most importantly, winning Celebrity Mastermind. It’s testament to his relentless work ethic that he’s also managed to amass a variety of non-album recordings that makes up this 20+ track selection. Comprised of original songs, live takes, covers, digital only tracks and songs from tribute albums, iTunes sessions, guest spots and collaborations, unreleased or unheard demos and radio sessions – this is a must have for any Frank fans and collectors alike.

Kicking off with a studio version of live favourite 'Somebody To Love' by Queen, Frank dips into a lively rambling trip around our fair isle with EP track 'Sweet Albion Blues', strips back for a rousing yet level-headed take on the 2011 London riots on 'Riot Song' (naturally) and reveals a hidden gem from the Tape Deck Heart demos, ‘Something of Freedom’.

The next slab of music is Frank’s more recent covers and collaborations ranging from the sublime (Emily Barker’s ‘Fields of June’, contributing vocals) and the affecting ('Big Foot' by The Weakerthans, previously unheard) to the raucous (‘Happy New Year’ with Jon Snodgrass), and the unexpected (a Noel Coward cover). Throw in some true American classics in ‘American Girl’ by Tom Petty and ‘Pancho & Lefty’ by Townes Van Zandt and you have an intriguing glimpse into Frank’s diverse musical leanings.

The compilation concludes with a number of live and alternative versions of Frank’s songs, and one Springsteen cover, the timeless ‘Born To Run’. Matt Nasir from The Sleeping Souls accompanies Frank on incredible new, rawer versions of ‘Plain Sailing Weather’, ‘Tell Tale Signs’ and ‘The Way I Tend To Be’, while the rest of the Souls get an outing on the full-band live performance of 'Dan’s Song'.

To Kill A King Exit, Pursued By A Bear

  1. Oh My Love
  2. Breathe
  3. The Constant Changing State Of Us
  4. Love Is Coal
  5. So My Friends Want To Marry

For a band that have often been described as acoustic or folk-rock, To Kill A King in fact deliver a far more dynamic, expansive sound, as evidenced on lead track Oh My Love, with hyperactive drums and buzzing guitars breaking into a massive chorus. Singer Ralph Pelleymounter’s voice is the band’s trump card – an intoxicating baritone that can soar as well as soothe.

"This EP is a departure from where we were but not where we are going to end up,” says Pelleymounter. “Call it a pit stop on the road to optimism, somewhere to pick up some snacks and petrol, maybe look at the local attractions, like a girl with a beard of bees or the worlds largest cigarette"

In support of the EP To Kill A King will play a one-off, intimate gig on Wednesday 22nd October at The Courtyard Theatre N1. Tickets on sale now from http://www.alt-tickets.co.uk/to-kill-a-king-tickets

Since forming in 2009, To Kill A King have never stopped touring, building up a considerable fanbase in the process. Their consistent gigging has involved several headline UK tours, each bigger than the last, with their most recent tour culminating in a sold-out London date at Koko. Earlier this year TKAK embarked on their first headline European Tour, before heading to North America where they were main support to regular touring buddies Bastille. They also performed at SXSW and supported Xtra Mile label mate Frank Turner in Arizona. Back in the UK, they joined Neil Young & Crazy Horse and The National at Hyde Park in July.

SKINNY LISTER SIGN TO XTRA MILE RECORDINGS // ANNOUNCE 5 UK NEW ALBUM SHOWS

Xtra Mile Recordings are pleased and proud to announce that London-based folk five-piece Skinny Lister have signed to the label. The news comes just ahead of their main stage slot at Germany’s legendary Reeperbahn festival on Wednesday, 17 September.

To celebrate the signing, the English quintet will play five shows in five days across the UK in October. These shows will give fans the chance to hear the forthcoming album in full before its release in spring 2015. Tickets are here and dates are:

OCTOBER
22 Manchester @ Night & Day
23 Bristol @ The Attic
24 Leicester @ Scholar Bar
25 London @ 100 Club
26 Brighton @ Sticky Mikes

Skinny Lister are no strangers to the world’s biggest stages – having performed on the mainstage at Coachella and Fujirock in 2013. Already this year they have toured the States supporting Dropkick Murphys and wowed audiences at USA’s prestigious Bonnaroo and Summerfest festivals. Back on home soil the group rocked the Avalon stage at Glastonbury, the main stage at Wickerman Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, BoomTown Festival and Beautiful Days. Later in the year they undertake a headline tour of Japan, culminating with a mainstage performance at Asigiri Jam Festival in Tokyo.

Skinny Lister seem to have been born from the land itself. Spending time trailing all over the country, they've toured and recorded an EP on the Grand Union canal route, driven a Land Rover 100s of miles to play gigs every night, and played 30 festivals in 2011, winning the PRS “Hardest Working Band” of that summer.

In 2012 they played SxSW in Austin, Texas and were snapped up by the Vans Warped Tour, playing up to three times a day at the travelling festival. They also released debut album Forge & Flagon in the UK, with a US and Japan release the following year.

The band's full bloom, spirit-fuelled folk flurry started blossoming with the nourishment gained from Leicester's folk clubs. Adding some fertilizer from the Thameside folk community, and life lessons and experience from getting pub punters up and down the land dancing, Skinny Lister are spreading roots for their own lively, irresistible folk revival.

Charlie Caplowe, Xtra Mile Recordings’ Managing Director says: “At Xtra Mile we are always looking for acts that not only have great songs and are cracking live but who also work hard, want to play and tour all the time and share our DIY ethos. Skinny Lister fit that bill and we are excited to welcome them to the XMR fold.”

Skinny Lister said: “'We’re really big fans of Xtra Mile Recordings, and it's great that we're already good friends with some of the roster, including Larry & His Flask, Beans On Toast and Dave Hause. We’re proud to be a part of this growing label and it’s a great fit for Skinny Lister. Very excited for the new album to be an Xtra Mile release.'
