ROB LYNCH ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE 'WHISKEY' OUT 22 SEPTEMBER 2014 // UK AND EUROPEAN TOUR DATES

Singer-songwriter Rob Lynch has announced his next single ‘Whiskey’, which you can listen to below, and will be released through Xtra Mile Recordings on 22 September 2014. The track is taken from his forthcoming debut album All These Nights In Bars Will Somehow Save My Soul.

CHEAP GIRLS ANNOUNCE UK + EUROPEAN TOUR

Famous Graves, their first album for Xtra Mile Recordings, has been described as “a collection of good. honest punk jams for us all to enjoy” by Rock Sound, and Kerrang! said “(it) will entertain you, your mum and your 70-year old grandma all at the same time….they rock in all the right places”.

The album title came from the band’s habit of visiting cemeteries in the towns they visit to see if anybody of note has been buried there. They’ve seen everyone’s grave, from Bon Scott in Perth to Ian Curtis near Manchester. The second meaning for the title is, as bassist/vocalist Ian Graham explains, a bit deeper. “The phrase started taking on the idea of common error, It refers to obvious ways to make mistakes - ways to get caught doing the same thing over and over.”
We hope this trip makes good use of the first meaning!

MINERAL SIGN TO XTRA MILE RECORDINGS // REISSUE ALBUMS ON VINYL + 2CD COMPILATION WITH BONUS TRACKS ON 20 OCTOBER 2014

Texan, emo pioneers Mineral have signed a worldwide deal (excluding North America) with Xtra Mile Recordings, who will reissue their two seminal albumsThe Power of Failing and Endserenading, each on double 45 RPM vinyl, on 20 October 2014.

Xtra Mile will also release Mineral – 1994-1998 a 2x CD compilation of both The Power of Failing and EndSerenading with bonus material and previously unreleased tracks to get the uninitiated up to speed in time for some live performances. Full tracklisting for all releases below.

To celebrate this incredibly influential band signing to their natural, UK-based home, Xtra Mile are offering preorder ticket and vinyl/CD bundles which you can view here from Wednesday, 23 July.

Mineral formed in 1994 and disbanded in 1997 just before the release of their second album Endserenading. Despite a surprisingly small amount of time together, they’ve been cited as inspiration by a host of bands and artists, including Xtra Mile’s very own Frank Turner.

Taking the baton from mid-nineties emo band Sunny Day Real Estate, they crystallised the slow, melodic loud/quiet dynamic that wax sealed the genre, crafting an eternally distinctive and beloved sound. Their debut album The Power of Failing is a passionate paen to spirituality and love, bathed in crescendos of hollered guitar, while posthumous follow-up Endserenading – finished after the official split of the group - broods and simmers with patience, pain and redemption. Both albums are recognised as essential, packed with trailblazing cuts which have since informed plenty of peers and imitators, while never being bettered.

The band reunited in April this year - 20 years after the original formation – and will play their first dates in 17 years this autumn, starting in New York City.

Billy says of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades: " I definitely took Frank's lead as far as how to approach the recording process. Eventually it became apparent that we were a pretty good team but he came up with the concept of recording ‘live off the floor’ which I think contributed a lot to the finished product… I just think it sounds badass."

It is badass. Billy’s voice is immediately introduced on album opener ‘Phone Bills’, while Nigel’s ricocheting drums hesitate, roll and jump ahead of her, then everything collides in synchronicity. ‘The Quarry’ starts all sublime, picking leads into evocative lines about fleeing an unnamed town, the stumbling drums playing the part of unknown pursuers’ rapidly gaining footsteps.

A recent month-long European tour with Chuck Ragan and Northcote was almost entirely paid for with 10 days’ worth of incredible, unique paintings which were sold to the highest bidders - all while Billy was convalescing from a serious ankle injury.

FRANK TURNER ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER UK TOUR

After his acclaimed performance on the main stage at Sonisphere festival in Knebworth Park earlier this year, Frank Turner has announced his latest UK tour with The Sleeping Souls for September 2014.

Frank rounded off a busy and hugely successful 2013 by playing a show with Billy Bragg in aid of Shelter. As well as the intimate gig at Wiltons in London in December, the pair took to the streets for a busking session for the charity. He also packed in a title-winning performance on Celebrity Mastermind, answering questions on his chosen specialist subject of Iron Maiden. The episode was screened on BBC One on January 3rd.

Tape Deck Heart reached number one on the iTunes chart, number two on the Official Top 40 Chart and also entered the top ten on the US iTunes Chart in its week of release, underlining Frank Turner’s arrival as a crossover DIY star.
