THE RPMs ANNOUNCED FOR GLASTONBURY BBC INTRODUCING STAGE // 'DIGITAL DISOBEDIENCE' OUT 24 JUNE 2016 // BRIGHTON SHOW 2 JULY 2016

With an electrifying new EP imminent and a heroic homecoming show set to follow their eagerly anticipated appearance at this year’s Glastonbury, summer 2016 is looking radiant for Brighton’s The RPMs. 

Described by the BBC as a 'spookily young Brighton trio with killer melodies and an Arctic Monkeys rasp’, the band have plenty to celebrate as they follow the release of their debut EP Digital Disobedience on 24 June 2016 with a coveted slot on Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing Stage, the very next day. Having earned a heap of new fans after their incendiary performance at Camden Rocks, the band will take it up another level again as they return to Glastonbury festival for the second year in a row. Their no-nonsense approach to melody is what snared them a high profile return slot following 2015’s triumphant set at Pilton Party. Expressing the band’s delight to accept an invite to this year’s bash, Jack Valero said: 

“Can’t express in words how utterly excited we are to play the BBC Intro stage at Glastonbury Festival 2016! Melita Dennett at BBC Introducing South has given us such great support and we hope to do her and BBC Intro South proud.“

To top it all off, a victory lap awaits the three-piece as they eye up a hometown show at The Hope & Ruin on 2 July. 

Hosted by the talent taste-making club night This Feeling (once described by Noel Gallagher as "the best club in the UK for future rock and roll stars”), The RPMs’ upcoming show in Brighton will be both a celebration and a thank you to the city has that supported them on their journey so far. Showing his affection for his hometown, The RPMs frontman Jack Valero said: “We absolutely love Brighton and it's the best place for young musicians to live and work on their craft. The whole town has such a great artistic vibe and we've taken so much inspiration from it. It's particularly important to us as it's where we met Miguel, our bass player, and started out playing in every dark sweaty bar we could. And if you like to party, there's always somewhere still open: we once got a carbonara at five in the morning. There's just no other town like it.”

ROB LYNCH NEW ALBUM 'BABY, I'M A RUNAWAY' OUT 22 JULY 2016 // PREORDER NOW // 'SURE THING' STREAM

Rob Lynch has announced the release of his second album via Xtra Mile Recordings. Baby, I’m A Runaway will be released on 22 July. Lynch says: “It’s a song about being in a bit of a slump and longing for someone to drag you out of it, whether that be through a person or through music or literature. There’s a few nods to my favourite writers and artists in there. The joyous nature of the music is supposed to win out over the downbeat lyrics to invoke an overall sense that everything will be alright.”

Rob Lynch wrote his debut full length, All These Nights In Bars Will Somehow Save My Soul, over the course of the seven years that preceded its 2014 release. The journey since has taken him on well-worn roads around Germany and all over the UK. There was a long, hot summer on the Warped Tour in North America, and there were inspiring nights spent sharing stages with Charlie Simpson, Thees Uhlmann and Augustines. There were huge, life-affirming weekends treading the boards at 2000 Trees, Groezrock and Slam Dunk Festivals, too. 

But in another sense, that journey has led to places that cannot be found on any map. It led to the ten songs that make up his new record; songs of self-assessment, songs of apology, songs of mourning, hope, love and growth. The young man who wrote the introspective, ultra-personal songs in search of a bar that would save his soul was looking even deeper now, with a whole new perspective and renewed passion. He beat himself up with words that reflected the flaws and failings he’d shied away from facing before, but he also found expressions of gratitude, joy and optimism, fuelled by the wealth of incredible memories, experiences and achievements he’d notched on his travels. He wrote songs about friendship, about family, and the ties that bind. He wrote about life in all its curious, challenging and brilliant splendour.

Musically, this material demanded an expansion of the sound established on the first album. Enlisting the help of his good friends in his long-time live backing band, Jonny Ward (guitar), Tom Aylott (bass) and Charlie Thomas (drums), Rob once again recorded with Sam Duckworth (Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly / Recreations) and Jay Malhotra at Amazing Grace Studios in Hoxton, London. Rob’s friends in We Are The Ocean and Deaf Havana joined the crew in the studio for a couple of creative nights, lending their voices to some of the tracks on the album. Driven by the positivity and warmth that sparked the ideas, the sounds that emerged naturally envelop much poppier, more upbeat melodies, but never come at the expense of the intimacy and honesty that he’s made his stock in trade.

XTRA MILE RECORDINGS TAKE OVER THE AXIOM STAGE AT 2000TREES ON THURSDAY 7 JULY 2016

Xtra Mile Recordings are delighted to announce that they will take over the Axiom Stage at 2000trees Festival for the whole of Thursday 7 July 2016. The relationship between the label and the festival has long been strong, both sharing a passion for brilliant music. 

Joining in the festival’s 10th anniversary celebrations, Xtra Mile has 10 acts playing across the weekend, including the takeover of the Axiom Stage. Confirmed so far for the XMR takeover is the gruff, upbeat poetry from Beans On Toast; the diverse, folk-infused politicism of Crazy Arm; some tender yet sharp self-deprecation via Ben Marwood; Rob Lynch’s positive and indelible pop songs; and the melodic schism of Oxygen Thief’s ferocious and intelligent thrash. There is more to be announced, as well as stage times which will be available nearer the weekend.

There are four more artists playing across the weekend. Two of our newest signings play on Friday – ex-Operahouse and Tribes vocalist Johnny Lloyd playing new solo material from his upcoming EP Dreamland (out 10 June), produced by Hugo White (The Maccabees) and Jamie T, and increasingly popular gift-of-a-songwriter Will Varley. Saturday sees the eclectic patchwork-dance form of Sam Duckworth’s Recreations, and Brighton’s uplifting up-and-comers The RPMs, drawing from their live back catalogue and four-track EP Digital Disobedience (out 24 June).

Xtra Mile has often had a strong presence at 2000trees, having had Frank Turner play the very first in 2007 and on three more occasions (including headlining) and Ben Marwood, as well as previous XMR acts Jamie Lenman (2014), Sucioperro (2011), and Sonic Boom Six (2010). Fans have long connected the label and the festival, with the infamous Camp Reuben, Camp Marwood and Camp Turner springing up over the years, allowing like-minded XMR fans to meet, sing, laugh, and occasionally watch impromptu solo sets by our artists. 

2000trees festival organiser James Scarlett says: “We’ve had such great links with Xtra Mile over the years that it seemed the obvious decision to partner with them for our 10th anniversary. I’m particularly excited about the Thursday night Axiom Stage which features an incredible line up of Trees’ Xtra Mile favourites, with more to be announced. Watch this space!”

2016 has already been an exceptional year for the twelve-legged party machine that is Skinny Lister. Kicking things off was a support tour across Germany, Austria and Switzerland with labelmate, and fan, Frank Turner. Then it was a quick hop across the pond for Flogging Molly’s festival Salty Dog Cruise around the Bahamas, before heading out on their own East Coast headline tour with label pals Beans On Toast and Will Varley in tow. Many of the shows were sold out well in advance and signalled a big step up for the band Stateside, with an ever-increasing fanbase begging for more. 

Since then, concentration has turned to recording the band’s third studio album, set for release in the autumn, on Xtra Mile Recordings. Lorna from the band says: “The last year has been amazing! The Xtra Mile Recordings family has welcomed us with open arms and touring the States, Europe and the UK with labelmates Frank Turner, Beans on Toast and Will Varley has been incredible. The excitement doesn’t stop there though; we’ve not stopped writing and feel very excited about what’s cooking!”

Album number three follows 2015’s Down On Deptford Broadway, a rum-soaked blend of English folk and punk rock anarchy that received rapturous acclaim, with The Guardian, declaring: “It packs enough punch to steamroll a saloon brawl.” More information on the album will be unveiled soon.

The four-track EP encapsulates the sound, style, and even smell of The RPMs home-grown gritty, rock tinged sound. Their main track 'I Don't Like It' pitches you the rough and ready anger of youth with tunes you can hum, beats you can tap and lyrics you can sing in the shower. Inspired by the past but built for the future, their sound lends itself a timeless pop feel. 'I Think It's Stupid, But I Think It’s Love' pushes this home with it’s juxtaposition between romance and reality, and has already gained airplay and 'Track Of The Day' on BBC Introducing South. 

Jack Valero (lead vocals and guitar), Miguel Cosme (bass and backing vocals) and Callum James (drums and backing vocals) are The RPMs. Inspired by the classic and enduring music of Tom Petty, The La's, Arctic Monkeys and The Who, with their stripped back sound they describe themselves as a rock band not afraid of a good pop tune. The track 'I Wanna Work In Abercrombie and Fitch' again stays true to this by combining social commentary with a catchy chorus and 'Down That Road Again' is just there for you to dance like no one is watching....and you're ever so slightly drunk. 

The latter track was featured on 2015's Xtra Mile High Club Vol. 6 – the sixth annual label compilation of roster favourites and newer acts – and was promptly picked up by 6Music's Tom Robinson for his Mixtape show as well as bagging them their first BBC Introducing South 'Track of the Day'.

Following a recent run of dates supporting The Beat, The RPMs will tour the country and beyond throughout 2016. Continuing to win over audiences, as they've done already at Glastonbury, Brighton's The Great Escape, opening XMR's summer party at The Monarch in July 2015 and supporting Wolf Alice and Rudimental at Pilton Party at the behest of The Godfarmer himself, Michael Eavis.
