Welcoming - Algiers to the roster!

Xtra Mile Recordings are excited to announce the signing of new band Algiers to the ever-growing family and will be releasing their debut album early 2014. Signing the contract just a few minutes before they took to the stage at our 10th Anniversary gig at The Monarch in Camden back in September, we can now finally reveal their debut album ‘You’re The Captain’ will be out 27thJanuary 2014 along with the single ‘Mother’ out 3rd February 2014.

Algiers, a 2 piece from Sheffield, started after a chance meeting in a bar between drummer John W Goodwin and guitarist/vocalist William K J Anderson. After realising who one another was (both were big fans of the others previous band; The Maple State and Dartz! respectively)and after a couple of months of threatening to have a jam together, the twofinally came together for a rehearsal and started playing around with some ideas. This one rehearsal turned into 4 months of collaboration and a musical bond and partnership was born.

Not knowing any bass players who would fit with what they were coming up with, they settled as a two piece and with a common ground in their fondness for indie-rock bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, American Football, The Weakerthans and The Walkmen, they set about writing songs, focusing their compositions on standard pop-song formulas; relying more on melody and simpler structures than their previous bands. The result is a sound that’s both heady and visceral. A sound that feels weightless and timeless with wandering guitars and heart on sleeve vocals.

Transgender Dysphoria Blues is the intense follow-up to the band’s previous full-length album, White Crosses (reissued with bonus disc Black Crosses on Xtra Mile Recordings in 2011) and stands as another major benchmark for the band and its career spanning 10+ years. Recorded at Studio 606, Earth Sound Studio, Motor Studio, Total Treble Studio and mixed by Billy Bush (Garbage, Muse, Tegan and Sara), Transgender Dysphoria Blues is an insightful and highly-provocative 10-song offering written by frontwoman Laura Jane Grace, whose material examines one’s grappling with gender dysphoria, the loss of a young friend and pure self-discovery, as well as love and ultimate acceptance. Featuring Grace’s signature, explicit songwriting and dominant vocals, the album also features longtime guitarist/vocalist James Bowman, drummer Atom Willard and Fat Mike of NOFX on bass for ‘FUCKMYLIFE666’ and ‘Unconditional Love’.

Transgender Dysphoria Blues will be supported with a full UK and European tour in 2014. Details to be released soon.

The Acoustic Basement has long since been a staple on the US Warped Tour and the UK event looks to follow the tradition of bringing fans up close and personal for some special DIY performances from Main Stage artists and singer songwriters alike.

The Punktastic Acoustic Basement is situated in the festival’s new Market Area, where Punktastic will also be hosting a hang out area. Fans that register on the forums at punktastic.com to be the first to hear about pre-festival meet ups and further additions to the Acoustic Basement.

Both weekend (priced £75) and single day tickets (priced £40) for VANS WARPED TOUR in London are on-sale now at
http://vanswarpedtouruk.com/.
Also available in person at Vans stores nationwide (no booking fee).  As usual, the running order is to be decided on the day, and this year you may even see some surprise appearances from a select few bands who decide one show at WARPED is not enough and join for both days.
